In a battle for the AFC Championship title, the Pittsburgh Steelers head to Foxboro to face Tom Brady and the Patriots. Check out our live blog below. Feel free to comment along with us!
And the Patriots get the ball at the 25 yard line to begin the game after a touchback.
Will be interesting to see how this rain/weather plays a factor in each teams game plan.
Julian Edelman with some dirty moves and the Patriots are already inside the Red Zone.
Almost picked off as the ball goes right between Malcolm Mitchell’s hands. Gostkowski comes on for a 31 yarder.
3-0 Patriots not even 2 minutes into the game
Stephen Gostkowski boots the field goal through.
Patriots drive stalled there on 3rd and 1. Steelers with the first example of a bend but don’t break defense.
Starting on the 22 for the Steelers.
Key for the Pats: Contain Le’Veon Bell. If not the Steelers have a good chance.
Sammie Coates can’t haul in the 3rd and 1 deep ball. Good throw by Ben.
Would’ve given it to Le’Veon Bell there
Odd play there. 3rd and 11
Down goes Brady!
Sack! Steelers force a 3 and out
Good adjustments made by the Steelers’ D to make the Patriots go 3 and out.
Bell with a patient run to gain 6 on first down
3rd and 4 after an incompletion
Great play by Big Ben to avoid the sack and throw for a first down
Steelers slowly moving the ball down the field. Past midfield now.
Malcolm Butler sat under that Antonio Brown route perfectly. Almost comes up with the int.
Pass nearly picked on 3rd down. Pittsburg to punt
The punt bounces into the end zone.
Steelers should commit to Bell more. Having some success and the passing game does not look sharp early
So far Pittsburgh offense seems to be similar to last weeks. They can move the ball down the field, but cannot convert it into TDs.
3rd and 1 for the Pats
Another 3rd down for Pats. Lewis fights for the first down.
Let’s see if Lewis can have a repeat of last week’s big performance.
So we can all agree that Belichick hide Dion Lewis until the playoffs?
Screen pass to Hogan for another first down
I’d say so
Brady with an audible and 20 yard pass for a first down to Chris Hogan
And another 10 yard pass for a first down to Hogan
Brady racking up the completions to Chris Hogan right now.
That’s three in a row.
Steelers committed to stopping the Pats’ run game.
Odd strategy in all honesty
Touchdown pass to Hogan
Guess Who? Chris Hogan TD.
Have a day, Chris
Brady had all day to throw there. Not a recipe for success for Steelers.
Brady with an absolute laser. Gostkowski’s extra point good. 10-0 Patriots
With 247 to go in 1Q. Pats 10, Steelers 0.
Please give us a better game then the previous one.
You can say that again
I’d lean on Le’Veon here
In case everyone forgot, Bill Belichick began his NFL coaching career as a special teams coach.
In case everyone forgot, Bill Belichick began his NFL coaching career as a special teams coach for the NY Giants.
Eli Rogers with a first down
BRADY IS A SYSTEM QB! SAD!
People forget that
Brady is still a winner.
Deangelo Williams with a 15 yard run
First down to Antonio Brown
It’s impossible to cover Antonio Brown on his inside routes across the field. Just too fast.
Another first for Williams
Flowers down for the Pats.
1st and 10 at the New England 15 after the injury timeout
Short pass to Williams brings the ball to the 11. 2nd and 7
Can the Steelers find the end zone here?
Steelers really need a TD here. Can’t settle for field goals and get away with it like last week
Long play ends in a 6 yard gain to Jesse James
3rd and 1.
Touchdown Deangelo Williams!
Huge drive for the Steelers
Williams cut it back across the left guard. A fantastic run and dive across the goal line.
And Boswell pulls the kick left
That’s just some classic Steelers patience on the ball. Great play by Williams.
The little things matter when you play the Patriots. Hopefully, that does not hurt them in the long run.
Le’Veon Bell questionable to return.
Potentially big news here: According to John Clayton on Twitter: “Le’Veon Bell suffers a left groin injury. He’s questionable for his return. DeAngelo Williams replacing him.”
Jay Feely’s pants are very tight after the missed PAT
A missed extra point was the decider in last year’s AFC Championship game
Gotta love Jay Feely with the in-depth kicking analysis.
Bad throw by Brady and a drop by Hogan on a potentially big gain
Brady’s not happy after that drop by Hogan
The throw was behind him but Hogan could have caught it. No less, he was WIDE open.
3rd and 10
Brady to Edelman for a first down
On 3rd down Edelman catches a pass over the middle for a first down.
On 3rd down Edelman catches a pass over the middle for a first down.
Brady and his receivers are easily finding the holes in this Steelers defense
Brady has been very efficient so far. Steelers’ zone coverage seems to be pretty soft.
Mark Davis probably watching this game at the bar at PF Changs
Steelers really missed an opportunity there to stop them on third down
Yet, they continue to stuff the run. Now 3rd and 8.
Hogan again for a 20 yard gain
What a day for him
This Steelers’ D plays the first two downs like they know what play the Pats called and can’t stop them on third.
Flea Flicker to Hogan for a TD
Too many 3rd down breakdowns for the Steelers
Chris Hogan was questionable entering today’s game with a thigh injury. He has 7 for 117 and 2 TDs.
As great as Le’Veon Bell is, Williams is at the worst an average NFL starter, and the Steelers should still be able to run the ball
The will loose Bell’s ability in the passing game, where he might be the best of any RBs.
And as I say that, Bell is back in
Looks a bit ginger
First down catch for Williams
Followed by a 4 yard catch for Antonio Brown
Williams with another first down catch
Has been very useful so far catching the ball
Big Ben doing a great job of stepping up in the pocket and finding the open receiver, while not trying to do too much.
7 yard first down pass to Antonio Brown
3rd and 2 following a 1 yard run
Bell again has been sidelined here with Williams seeing all the snaps since Bell’s first rush of this drive.
First down to Antonio Brown
Surprising that the Pats are letting Brown beat them, they are usually all over opposing #1 receivers
So far the Pats have done a good job on Brown but there was a breakdown on the backend there.
First down to Jesse James
Potential Touchdown broken up by Eric Rowe
DeAngelo William’s touchdown run earlier was the first Steelers touchdown since the third quarter of their Wild Card game against the Dolphins – that’s six scoreless quarters.
Coming into today everyone talked about the four great QBs we get to see today. Ryan was great. Rodgers struggled early but pulled it together in the second half. Brady and Roethlisberger have been fantastic going into the 2 minute warning.
It’s tough to say whether or not Rodgers did well today. He struggled due to his wide receivers consistently failing to get open and dropping passes in key moments. When they did get open he played well.
Touchdown Jesse James
Way to finish that play by Jesse James!
Will they go for 2?
If the touchdown stands
Looks like he might be just short
Although initially called a touchdown, it looks like after review Jesse James was actually short of the end zone.
On the replay it doesn’t look like he got in.
I’m hoping for a QB sneak by Big Ben , always a fan of those.
Down at the 1
James being ruled down may not be the worst thing for the Steelers, as Brady has more then enough time to go down and score with 1:53 on the clock.
Whatsup Aaron rodgers
Williams stuffed on both his first and second try at getting in
Now third down from the 5
And Steelers can’t convert on third down. Out comes Chris Boswell
Mike Tomlin proving his worth as a cheerleader
Incomplete to Eli Rodgers on an out route. Even if he caught it, he would not have scored.
Questionable play calling for the Steelers there
Big stop by the Pats there
Hey Ryan Green we have television, bro
Dion Lewis takes a knee for touchback
Patriots ball at the 25
Do the Steelers start using their timeouts here?
We need more Antonio Brown but still a Steelers loss
I’m feeling a hail Brady here
And Bennet chokes on the screen
A Hail Mary here would be an epic subtweet to Aaron rodgers
Brady has a glorious knee
17-9 at the half
Steelers get the ball first to start the second half
Key halftime stats
I couldn’t be gayer
Simply put, which ever teams defense gets more third down stops wins this game.
Some first drive points would be huge for the Steelers
Bell still on the sideline to start the second half
Big stop for the Pats
Pass broken up by Logan Ryan on third down to force a Steelers punt
Steelers had a chance to tie it up
Dion Lewis involved early
Big personal foul gives the Patriots a first down
First penalty of the night. Doesn’t help the Steelers.
Blount with a rare catch on first down
Interesting stat: that personal foul by Shazier is actually the first foul by either team this game. Both teams had zero penalties in the first half
3rd and 1
Brady sneaks for a first down
The classic Brady sneak is successful as always
What do we think?
Haven’t shown much replay tough to say
Ruling on the field stands as called, first down Pats
Looks like the officials might have got one wrong there.
Really looked like a fumble and recovery by the Steelers
3rd and 10 now for the Pats
Mitchell couldn’t keep the feet in.
Field Goal makes it 20-9 Pats
Gostkowski hits through a 47 yarder.
Big drive for the Steelers here; a score keeps it close
Eli Rodgers with a big time catch over the middle!
Followed by a small loss by Deangelo Williams
Williams just isn’t getting the job done back there.
First down on an out route to Antonio Brown
Passing game looks much better this drive
Heyward-Bey had a step on the defender but Ben overthrew him. Would have been a TD if the pass could have been caught inbounds.
Officials miss another call against the Steelers.
Forcing them to punt. Punt downed at the 11.
Good job by the Steelers to stop Dion Lewis on the screen
Another potential 3 and out converted by the Pats
Patriots offense is looking like a Super Bowl calibre team
Brady is a completion machine today.
The Steelers’ DB have no idea what to do right now.
Who do you try to stop right now if you’re the Steelers? Edelman? Hogan? Lewis?
Blount just went full Beast Mode.
Blount TD run
They reward him with a TD!
3 score game now.
Unless the Steelers answer here, it’s looking like a Patriots – Falcons Super Bowl
And a fumble recovery by the Patriots
Eli Rodgers was having a great game up until that last play.
Van Noy with the strip on Eli Rogers and Ninkovich with the recovery.
Edelman’s yards after catch this game is crazy
Edelman breaks a tackle to turn a short gain into a nice play.
Steelers need to force a turnover this drive or the game is over
The Playoffs have been somewhat of a disappointment for fans. Of the 10 games including this one, only 2 have been good games to the end
Patriots have 175 yards after catch so far
Who else but Julian Edelman with the 10 yard reception in the end zone
Antonio Brown might have to go play some defense.
Matt Ryan made his strong case for MVP earlier today. Tom Brady is responding with an equally impressive performance
This Steelers’ D seemed to revive itself midseason, but they are back into that early season mode.
Brady has been great but the WR have been wide open and breaking every tackle the Steelers’ attempt.
My MVP vote goes to Matt Ryan. Pats 3-1 without Brady
I’d like to know the Patriots average +/- each game with and without Brady
The Steelers finally get a big play. A little late though.
Steelers get a first down inside the ten.
Steelers with a respectable drive right now. 6 plays about 73 yards
That TD will not count. A flag against the Steelers.
Steelers have TD called back for illegal touching on Cobi Hamilton
Steelers going for it on fourth and goal
4th and season for the Steelers
Lots of contact but no call as Logan Ryan and Cobi Hamilton fight for a loose ball. Incomplete and a turnover on downs for Big Ben and the Steelers.
Rough game for Hamilton. Dropped TD, illegal touching and can’t make the play on 4th down attempt
The corner fade was broken up, as Hamilton never separated himself.
Falcons Pats super bowl. Should be a high scoring, great game
LeGarrette Blount has assumed the role of Beastmode in the NFL this season. With Marshawn Lynch’s retirement, he’s really stepped up as the running back consistently breaking tackles and powering through defenses
The Falcons offense really looks unstoppable right now. At the same time, the Patriots scored all over the Steelers D which had a lot of success the last two weeks
Don’t forget the Patriots have a much stronger defense than the Falcons
Not so sure about that. Falcons D looked great today. Vic Beasley an Co. can create havoc on Brady.
This just about wraps up the Steelers performance tonight
And Roethlisberger throws an interception
Biggest shocker right now: There’s still 10 minutes left in the game!
Too many blowouts in these playoff games. Fans want a better product
How much would the Patriots be winning by if Garoppolo was in the game
Will the pro bowl be better this year with the challenge events for players?
Yes. More entertaining than a glorified flag football game
Dodgeball should be fun
The Pro Bowl might actually by more interesting then the actual football games.
More interesting than the two games today at least
Probably will be
Not really a high bar set right now
I think it’s time to get Brady out of the game
Gostkowski makes a 26 yard field goal. Patriots up 36-9
6:24 remaining in the fourth quarter
Let’s see what kind of magic Jimmy G can work. I’m all for it
Steelers on the board with a touchdown by Cobi Hamilton.
2 Point conversion is good. 36 – 17 Patriots
Patriots please start putting in your backups
That shall be all folks. Pats 36, Steelers 17. Final
New England will face the Atlanta Falcons in Houston
Great game by Bellichick and Brady. Look out for an exciting Super Bowl 51
